hello from Green Bay.

Hi all. Just figured I would sign up, after seeing a link to this forum posted on another board. I know Schnitz through another board, and got the opportunity to meet him last year when he was in the area.
My name is Troy and I live in Green Bay, WI. I am 38 (for another month anyways, man am I getting old)and an autobody/paint tech. Actually a recently laid off one. I have been contemplating at times just finding a place to rent (if anything was affordable) and just jumping in and give starting my own shop a try. I have done some sidework in the past. Almost seems like it would be as stable of an income as working for most companys these days, with less bs, and nobody gives decent benefits anymore anyways.
I don't own a monte carlo, but have owned quite a few Gm's over the years if that counts at all. The first car I ever owned was a 74 malibu classic and I needed a beater to get around with recently when my grand am died, so I just bought another pontiac bonneville (love the 3.8 what a great engine)like I use to have.
Nice to meet you all.

Troy, welcome!  Been too long since I saw you on the other board.  It's been too long since I made it your way east again too.  Maybe next time I'll have a bit more time, and hopefully I won't have to rush out like I did last time either.  Hated to cut it short back then.

Sorry to hear about the lay off.  Man that blows.  It might sound hard to believe, but that old saying about doors closing and opening does ring true.  Body skills will always be in demand, whether on cars or the "bigger toys" like you're used to.  Just gotta hang in there man.  Maybe I'll give you a call next week when I'm off too.  I got a week of voluntary layoff for the week before Easter, so hopefully I'll finish a half dozen projects too.  Thanks again for signing up, you'll always be welcome here!

In a while, Chet.
