chaining the engine

I need to chain my engine down.  I have already replaced the biscuit engine mount on the passenger side and i noticed yesterday that it is cruching the new one.  I changed it in october of las year.   I do not want to go through changing it again.  I have a place on the block on the drivers side that will hold a bolt.  what i want to know is how long of chain do i need and is the bolt 9/16.  Is that where the chain should go?   where is the best place to wrap the chain as i do not want to interfere with the power steering.  thanks.

It's been some Time since I Chained down an Engine in a Early Monte Carlo . But I did Chain Down the 350 in my 1971 Monte . I remember using a 3/8" Chain whent to one of the Front Driver side Head Bolts . Then I think I went through Part of the Frame were GM had a Hole in the Frame . You want to Tighten up the Chain at the Head First . Run it on a good angle so it won't rub on the P/S or Steering Shaft . Wrap it around or through the Frame / Hole . Take up all the Slack use a Long 3/8"Bolt with Lots of threads to do so .

I'm no expert on chaining an engine down in a first gen (stock 3rd gens lacked waaayyy too much power for a need to do that....), but why couldn't you use a couple eye bolts with a turnbuckle in between?  I remember seeing something like that in one that I looked at once almost 20 years back, so the memory is a bit fuzzy now....

Hopefully it was on the same '70 MC I saw (highly doubtful, but I can always hope...).  Was a sweet car, even had the factory fender skirts for the rear wheels.  Guy wanted $1500, then when I came back with the $$$$$$, he decided to keep it.  Some people.......confuse

The Turn Buckle in Between Can Work if you have Room for it so it will not Rub on your P/S Pump . But the Bad thing with the Turn Buckle is . Just about every one that You can Find even the Heavy Duty one . The Eye's of the Turn Buckle are Closed But not Welded . So they Open up when you try and keep the Chain Tight . I have used many Torque Chains on All kinds of cars . They really work Good . Only needed on the Drivers Side . Best Luck with keeping them Tight was when I wraped them around the Best Part of the Frame and Bolt the other end to the Head . You have to Find the Best angle that will not Touch the P/S Pump . Use a Long Bolt at the Wrap around to take up the Slack as you Tighten it Down . Go for a Ride . Then Tighten it up one more Time . You will feel power that you did not before . Sure Solid Engine Mount can be used from Chevelles on Early Monte Carlos . But to Quick Fix . The Chain is fine . I will Find a Way to Chain down the Engine in my 1983 Monte Carlo too .

I've never needed to chain an engine before. Seen it done a few times, but even My 79 with the 406 didn't tear the motor mounts, The transmission mounts tore up monthly though

Two HD Hose Clamps around the Trans Mount Slows the Breakage down some . The early Mounts did not have the Safety Hooks Built in Like the 1973 and Up Mounts do .
